Gluster 3.1: Installing the Initial Server

You can install Gluster Storage Platform on the initial server in a new cluster.

Booting the Installation
- Insert the USB installation media into an available USB port on the server.
This is the installation media you prepared using Gluster Storage Platform image. For more information, Preparing the Install Media.
- Boot the server. The Gluster Storage Platform installation process launches automatically.

Installing Global Storage Platform
After booting the server and allowing the Gluster Storage Platform installation to begin, the installation wizard displays the Welcome screen.
- Click Install new storage cloud to install the initial server in your cluster. The Boot Drive Selection screen appears.

- Choose the boot drive and time zone using the drop-down lists, type the domain name or IP address of the network time server, and click Next.
The disk you select will be made bootable and used as the disk in the storage cluster. The Network Configuration screen appears.
- Configure the network settings for the server.
The primary DNS server setting must match the IP address of the server (unless you have pre-configured another DNS server with the A records and reverse records for all storage server nodes).
- Click Install. The wizard displays a set of screens showing the progress of the installation.

A screen displaying the password for the Gluster Management Console appears when the installation has completed successfully.

Be sure to make note of this password.
- Remove the USB installation media.
- Click Reboot to reboot the server and display the Management Console installation screen. Alternatively, you can click Shutdown to shut down the server.
