Gluster 3.1: Managing Volumes
From GlusterDocumentation
The Volumes tab serves as the core of the Gluster Storage Platform, enabling you to create a distributed volume with a single global namespace.
All storage across all servers in the cluster appears as a single large volume when the file system is mounted on client machines. Gluster Storage Platform then uses an elastic hashing technique to intelligently distribute the files and avoid hot-spots within the storage.
You can use the Volumes tab to do the following:
- Create and start a new volume (featuring a single global namespace)
- Start a volume that is currently stopped
- Stop a volume that is currently running
- Display volume properties
- Edit a volume
- Expand, shrink, or migrate a volume
- Delete a volume from your storage environment, as required
