Gluster 3.1: Managing Volumes

From GlusterDocumentation

<<Using the Gluster Management Console | Table of Contents | Creating a Volume>>

The Volumes tab serves as the core of the Gluster Storage Platform, enabling you to create a distributed volume with a single global namespace.

All storage across all servers in the cluster appears as a single large volume when the file system is mounted on client machines. Gluster Storage Platform then uses an elastic hashing technique to intelligently distribute the files and avoid hot-spots within the storage.

You can use the Volumes tab to do the following:

  • Create and start a new volume (featuring a single global namespace)
  • Start a volume that is currently stopped
  • Stop a volume that is currently running
  • Display volume properties
  • Edit a volume
  • Expand, shrink, or migrate a volume
  • Delete a volume from your storage environment, as required
